Point of Entry Filter (POE) for building or ward incoming water
Hospitals use significant amounts of municipal water, which is delivered through complex piping systems. Installing a filter at the point of entry, the initial stage of the hospital’s water system network, can provide benefits throughout the entire facility.
Filtration goal in this process:
- Minimized maintenance on pipework and equipment
- Reduced bacteria growth / pipework biofilm
- Serve as a protective barrier for the hospital water pipework if accidental contamination occurs in the city network during maintenance or fire tests
The challenges:
- Accumulation of particulates within piping systems promotes biofilm development and bacterial growth by acting as nutrient sources. Consequently, this leads to higher disinfectant consumption and elevated risks of outbreaks as well as hospital-wide complications.
- Sediment deposition in pipes, storage tanks, water treatment units, and softeners not only increases overall maintenance but also results in greater salt usage for water softening.
- Accumulation of dirt in pipes, machines and pumps requires increased energy input for optimal operation and increased wear and tear on these components
The solutions:
- At the POE, depth filtration media are used to capture visible and subvisible particles down to 20 µm, ensuring effective pre-filtration
